Stampin’ Up! Botanical Butterflies Birthday

I haven’t been posting very much because I haven’t had anything much to say. Well, I always have something to say, but sometimes it is not worth the bits and bytes to post it.

Today, however, I think I have a beautiful card for you. I can take NO credit for it, however, as it came from the UK. Jan B to be specific. You can see her video here on how to make this card. I plan to do another with a totally different look, but using the same techniques.

Jan called this an ‘inside block’ card, but I just think it is a wonderful fancy fold. And, it is really easy! I will give you the basics, but you really should watch Jan go through the steps.

1. 1. Cut Granny Apple Green card stock to 6″ x 10″.
   2. Using Scoreboard, and with long side at the top, score at 3″, 4-1/2″, 6″and 7-1/2″.
   3.  Fold 6” x 10” card stock on 6” score line. With fold at top of scoreboard, and the short side facing (i.e. so the 7 ½” score line is facing you), make a small pencil mark at ¾”, 2”, 2½”, 3¾”, 4¼”, 5½”.
   4. Fold  on 7½” score line. With fold at top of scoreboard, and the long side facing (i.e. so you can see the first row of pencil marks) make pencil mark at ½”, 1¾”, 2¼”, 3½”, 4”, 5¼”.
   5. Use a ruler to connect these lines.
   6. Re-fold on the 6″ scoreline. Cut on lines.
   7. Erase pencil marks. They will be on the back and won’t show, but I like to erase them anyway.
   8. Use bone folder to crease the large sections forward, and smaller sections backward. Standing up, it will look like this:
   9. Use Liquid Glue to adhere Designer Series Paper to Whisper White card stock pieces, then adhere these to the card base.
   10. Use Light Highland Heather and Light Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends to color 3 large black and white butterflies (Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper).
   11. Do a rough cut out from the larger paper sheet, then punch them out using the Duet Butterfly Punch.
   12. I used some removable tape to hold the butterfly to a ‘handle’ of card stock to more easily insert it into the punch and line it up.
   13. Close the card and line up the butterflies where you want them. I put mine so that 1/2 would show when the card is closed. Jan B did this also.
   14. Stamp the floral image from Beauty Abounds and sentiment from Golden Afternoon stamp sets in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
   15. Color the floral image with Granny Hpple Green and Highland Heather Stampin’ Write Markers.
   16. Die cut using largest skinny rectangle for floral image and smallest squarish rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles Framelits.
   17. Adhere with Liquid Glue to Granny Apple green card stock pieces.
   18. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere to left card front.
   19. Rough cut small butterflies from Botanical Butterfly  DSP, then punch out with Duet Butterfly Punch.
   20. Use Liquid Glue to adhere 6 small rectangles of DSP to Whisper White.
   21. Adhere to cut squares on card base.
   22. Put a dab of Liquid Glue on body only of little butterflies and adhere to each of the 6 large squares on the card..
   23. Finally, adhere strip of Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to back of Whisper White card stock.
   24. To prevent gumming up your Big Shot acrylic cutting pads, lay the backing strip you removed from the adhesive over the die and paper. If you cut your adhesive to EXACTLY the size of the card stock you won’t need to do this. Mine was bigger and sticky around the edges.
   25. Use window die from Stained Glass Thinlits to cut 2 windows.
   26. These are now stickers. Peel off backing and adhere to panel.
   27. One more thing….use the Butterfly Gala stamp set to stamp the antennae in Memento Tuxedo Black.

Your card is done! How easy was that? Yes, there are some time consuming steps, but once you have done one, it doesn’t take long to do the next one. It will probably take longer to decide which papers to use!

Since there is no ‘inside’ on which to write or place a sentiment, I simply wrote on the back of the panel with the 3 butterflies. You can do as you like. When closed the card measures 4″ x 6″. Instead of making an envelope, I used a 5″ x 7″ white one.

The envelope has another of the floral images on the front, colored the same as the one on the card. The flap has more of the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper on the flap.

I think this is a stunning card and can’t wait to try some different stamps and colors.
