Good Tuesday morning everyone! Well, another month has rolled around and it is time for another Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop. Please join us as we all explore the theme of ‘For the Boys/Men’. It seems we often need to make a card for a guy and there aren’t enough masculine themes out there, for me anyway. I have LOTS of men/boys in my family, and the really hard ones to make are for the tween/teen boys. Anyway, here goes. Enjoy!

I really like the Sailing Away stamp set and dies, as well as the designer series paper that goes with it. I made a card for a friend whose brother died recently, using the fancy fold I had borrowed (CASed) from my friend Mary Deatherage. You can see her card here. Then I remembered I used that same style for last months blog hop, so that wouldn’t do at all.

There is always a need for masculine birthday cards, so I used the Sailing Home bundle anyway, changing things up a bit for today’s blog hop.

I began with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Seaside Spray card base, scored and folded at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″ on the long side. Cut 2-Night of Navy panels 2″ x 5 3/8″ for mats on the flaps. Next, cut 2 pieces of Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper at 1 5/8″ x 5″. Liquid glue adhered these to the Night of Navy mats and onto the card base flaps.

Moving to the inside, I cut a Night of Navy mat at 4″ x 5 1/4″ and a liner of Whisper white at 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″. This panel became my art piece.

I began by sponging Balmy Blue and Night of Navy very lightly over the top 3/4 of the panel, then on down the right side about half way over. The other corner I sponged lightly with Soft Suede. That set the stage for the stamping.

I used 4 stamp sets for this: Sailing Home, Waterfront, High Tide and Picture Perfect Birthday. Some of these are retired now from Stampin’ Up!, but the rules of the Hop are that we can use whatever products we like.

To determine the placement of everything else, I first stamped the rocks from Waterfront in Gray Granite. Then using the ‘ground’ stamp from the same stamp set, I stamped water in Pacific Point, some full strength and some stamped off once or twice to vary the shading. The sand is stamped in Soft Suede using a stamp from High Tide.

The lighthouse and birds, Sailing Home, and sentiment, Picture Perfect Birthday, are all stamped in Night of Navy. A few bits of grass stamped in Old Olive with a stamp from High Tide, finish the scene. This panel was then glued to the Night of Navy mat and into the card base using Liquid Glue.

The belly band is a 1 1/4″ x 10″ strip of Night of Navy stamped randomly using the rope stamp from Sailing Home and Night of Navy ink. The compass, from Sailing Home, was stamped on Whisper White with Soft Suede ink and cut using a small circle die from Layering Circles. The sentiment from Layered With Kindness was stamped in Night of Navy and punched out using the coordinating Label Me Lovely punch.

I folded the belly band strip around the card, overlapping it where the sentiment would cover the seam and used Liquid Glue to secure it. Liquid Glue also adhered the sentiment to the belly band. The finishing touch was to adhere the compass with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the envelope front I stamped the anchor from Sailing Home in Night of Navy. I stamped it again on a Post-it Note and fussy cut it to make a mask. The sticky part temporarily adhered it over the one on the envelope. Then I stamped the compass in Soft Suede and removed the mask.

The flap was finished with a piece of the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.
