Stampin’ Up! Waterfront for Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Blog hop headerGood morning everyone! It is Thursday and that means it is Blog Hop day. I have been traveling more than I have been home. Because of that and the fact that part of the time involved being at workshops, I really didn’t have the time, nor the energy, to make cards and blog about them. Please forgive.

On with the hop. Today we have a color challenge:

July 26 color challenge

And here is what I created using those colors:wild wing creations-4

I began with a panel of Whisper White card stock and sponged the lower portion with Blueberry Bushel. I used the Stamping Sponge, cut into wedges to do the sponging, using a different wedge for each color. I actually went a little above the halfway mark, then switched to Gray Granite. This color only got a small slice across the middle, blending into the blue. The Mango Melody was sponged across the top, darker at the top and blending into the gray lower down.

My goal was a misty sort of sky with water below, or in front of, the mountains. Using the mountain, trees and sun (or moon?) as well as the ziggy stamp which I will call soil, from the Waterfront stamp set, I proceeded to stamp the elements. The Sun is Mango Melody, the mountains and trees are all done in Gray Granite. Some are stamped off once, some images I just kept stamping as long as there was ink. The closer elements are darker with the paler images further away. At least that is the intent.

wild wing creations-1

The soil is Blueberry Bushel as it is pretty much in the shadow of the mountains. I also used the water stamp from High Tide to make the ripples in the lake with Blueberry Bushel full strength. These were highlighted with my white Gel Pen.

The sentiment is also from Waterfront, as is the inside sentiment. Basically, that is it. This panel was Liquid Glued to the front of the card base.

On the inside I Liquid Glued a panel of Blueberry Bushel for a mat. The sentiment panel is VERY lightly sponged around the edge with Mango Melody. I just used whatever ink was left in the sponge from doing the front, adding no more ink. I only wanted to cut down on the extreme whiteness of the panel.

wild wing creations-6

With Gray Granite I stamped the soil across the bottom, then stamped many trees without re-inking, repeating this a couple of times. I stamped the sun in Mango Melody and the sentiment in Blueberry Bushel. Liquid glue adhered this to the Blueberry Bushel mat.

This card is for a friend who is going through a pretty rough patch, so on the opposite inside I stamped the sentiment from Artistically Asian.

wild wing creations-5

This was a quick, rather easy card with only the 3 colors of ink, 2 of the 3 colors of card stock, plus Whisper White card stock and a white gel pen.

For the envelope, I simply stamped some trees on the front in Gray Granite and VERY LIGHTLY sponged the flap in the three colors. Then, again just using Gray Granite, I stamped mountains and trees. Fini. End. Done.

Card cuts and products used are below.

Stampin’ Up! Detailed Dragonfly Sympathy for Joint Blog Hop

joint blog hop header

Another Thursday has rolled around and now we are past the mid-point of July. Summer will be over before you know it, with the kids back to school and leaves falling from the trees as we prepare for winter.

Today is our joint Blog Hop with our friends from north of the border, so let’s get on with it! We have 2 challenges for joint hops, a color challenge and a sketch challenge, of which we can choose either, or both. I have chosen to use both today.

Here are our challenges

.

And here is my answer to the challenges

wild wing creations-4

I began by spritzing a panel of Watercolor paper with water, then ‘painting’ it with Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss and Petal Pink inks. I set this aside to dry, then cut the card stock for the rest of the card.

For the inside, I used liquid glue to adhere a panel of Bermuda Bay to my Petal Pink card base. On a piece of Very Vanilla I stamped the dragonfly in stamped off twice Blackberry Bliss, then used the Blackberry Bliss full strength to stamp the sentiment. The sentiment is from Flourishing Phrases, as is the sentiment on the front of the card.

wild wing creations-5

This sentiment panel was Liquid Glued to a mat of Blackberry Bliss and into the card base over the Bermuda Bay mat.

On the now dry, painted watercolor panel, I again stamped the dragonfly after stamping it off once on a piece of scratch paper. This was Liquid Glued to a mat of Blackberry Bliss.

The sentiment, from Flourishing Phrases, was stamped on Vellum with Blackberry Bliss ink and heat embossed. I used Clear Embossing Powder for this. A small strip of Tear & Tape adhered this strip to the card front. The card front is attached to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

wild wing creations-1

I ran a piece of Linen Thread over the Blackberry Bliss ink pad a few times to color it, then let it dry while I worked on the envelope. A small bow of this colored thread is then attached with a rolled up Glue Dot.

The envelope flap is ‘painted’ with my Aqua Painter using ink from the lid of the three colors – Blackberry Bliss, Petal Pink and Bermuda Bay. This needed to dry as well, then I smoothed it out using my fingers and the Bone Folder. wild wing creations-3

On the front I stamped another dragonfly in Blackberry Bliss, after stamping it off once.

wild wing creations-2

I think these colors worked beautifully together and I like the simplicity of the sketch. Now, on with the Hop! Please leave comments below. Also below, see card cuts and products used for this project.

Stampin’ Up! Beautiful You for the Happy Inkin’ Krew Thursday Blog Hop

Mornin’ Everyone! Today is Thursday, meaning it is Blog Hop Day. Today’s challenge is color , and as soon as I saw the challenge, I saw the card in my mind’s eye.

July 12 color challenge

While I really like 2 of the three colors, the third one is definitely not my favorite. However, I was able to use it sparingly on the card. It does set off the other two quite nicely, along with the addition of white. That said, here is my card.

wild wing creations-4

I began by making black and white diagonal stripes for one of the mats. This is definitely not within my comfort zone as far as style and subject matter are concerned. It is too modern and too bright for my taste, but I knew I had to make it. It will be a birthday card for a young college age woman.

Having determined that my card base would be Lovely Lipstick and the first mat my UN-favorite color, Lemon Lime Twist, I knew that my striped mat had to be 4″ X 5-1/4″. Taking a panel of Whisper White and my mechanical pencil, along with a ruler, I began marking stripes approximately 1/4″ wide. I then proceeded to color them in with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. If you do this, be VERY careful as it wants to smear. Set aside to dry.

The art piece girl from Beautiful You is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on a Whisper White panel. The sentiment, also from Beautiful You, is stamped in Lovely Lipstick. My orginal thought was to leave the girl black and white, but decided to give her a touch of color with a Lemon Lime Twist hat. I deliberately left some white spots to add to the hand drawn look of this image. This panel was adhered to a Lovely Lipstick mat.

wild wing creations-1

By now the stripes are dry and adhered with liquid glue to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and onto the front of the card base. Over this, using Stampin’ Dimensionals, I adhered the art piece to the front. As a final touch, I added a single Rhinestones Jewel to the lower right corner.

The inside continues the three colors with a Lemon Lime Twist mat, topped with a Basic Black mat. My sentiment panel is Whisper White edged with my Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Write Marker. The Lovely Lipstick image from Beautiful You was stamped off twice before adding to my panel. The Beautiful You sentiment is Memento Tuxedo Black.

wild wing creations-5

For the envelope, I made more stripes on the flap, then stamped a girl on the front with Memento Tuxedo Black.

I think this turned out well and is very contemporary.

This card only uses one stamp set and minimal paper and inks. No die cuts. Enjoy.

Now, on with the rest of the hop. Click on the “NEXT” image to see what tempting creation Amy has for you.

Stampin’ Up! Sheltering Tree Thank You

inkin-krew-blog-hop-banner2Hello Again! This is our week for the monthly Blog Hop and the theme this month is “Celebrate Summer”. I have chosen to build a thank you card using the Sheltering Tree stamp set. It is definitely summer with the fully leafed tree with a few apples, a bicycle, green grass,  and some lovely red flowers.

My card base is Garden Green and the card front began as Very Vanilla. I sponged the grass in two greens, Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple Green. There is a bit of Soft Suede at the top of the grass…dirt, you know. The sky is a mixture of Daffodil Yellow, Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride and Balmy Blue. This makes for sort of a sunset sky which is far more interesting than just blue. Or, maybe it is sunrise. You decide.

wild wing creations-4

Over this I stamped the tree in Soft Suede and added leaves in two colors, again Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple Green. Using the flower stamp in Sheltering Tree, I inked it in Real Red and added apples to the tree. We typically think of apples in autumn, but some varieties do ripen in summer.

I put flower stems in Shaded Spruce on one side of the lawn and added Real Red Flowers.

I thought the horizon line needed more definition, so I added some darker ‘grass’ using the dirt stamp in Sheltering Tree. I am not sure it is dirt, but that is what I call it. I inked it in Shaded Spruce, stamped it off twice and only added about 1/2 the length of the stamp. I turned it 180 degrees and repeated the process.

Nothing says summer fun so much as a bicycle leaning against the tree, just waiting for someone to take a ride. This two-step stamp is done in Memento Tuxedo Black and Real Red. The Birds in the sky are also stamped in Memento Black and are from the High Tide stamp set. It is amazing how much these three little birds added to the design.

wild wing creations-1

I used a strip of Tear & Tape to adhere a strip of Burlap Ribbon, then wrapped some Linen Thread around three times and tied it in a bow. To keep the thread from slipping, I taped it on the back with Scotch tape.

The sentiment is from A Good Day. I used the marker to stamp technique to ink the stamp in Soft Suede and Garden Green, then stamped on Very Vanilla. I used the smallest Stitched Shapes Framelits Circle to cut it on the Big Shot and Liquid Glued it to a #2 Shaded Spruce scalloped circle from Layering Circles Framelits. This layered sentiment was adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I number my shapes dies from smallest to largest with smallest being #1.

wild wing creations-6

The card front is now finished. It was attached to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The inside has a mat of Calypso Coral. The Very Vanilla sentiment panel has a row of the little flowers from Sheltering Tree done in Real Red and Shaded Spruce. The sentiment, from All Things Thanks, is stamped in Soft Suede.

wild wing creations-5

The envelope has an apple tree on the front and flowers on the flap. These are done just like the card front.

I really like the way this card turned out, so much that I duplicated it not once, but twice! I almost never duplicate a card. This was an exception.

Stampin’ Up! Rooted in Nature Birthday forHappy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Blog hop headerAnother Thursday and another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop. Today we are working with this sketch challenge

July 5 sketch

and here is the card I created for this challenge.

wild wing creations-1

I wanted a masculine card, and, while it isn’t over the top, I think it fills the bill because of the textures and colors.

I started with a sheet of the Nature’s Poem DSP and built the card from there, using the sketch as my guide, turning it on its side.

The card base is Sahara Sand with a mat of Soft Suede that I ran through the Pinewood Planks 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. That’s a mouthful! This will hereafter be known as a DTIEF!wild wing creations-1

The two offset panels are from Nature’s Poem and Wood Textures. In fact, everything on this card uses all those same papers and card stock.

Cut all the pieces first. Then, dry emboss the Soft Suede card stock mat. This was adhered to the card base with Tear & Tape.

A panel of light colored Wood Textures DSP was then Liquid Glued to this mat. The lovely Nature’s Poem panel with leaves was also adhered with Liquid glue.

Now for the fun part. I die cut several leaves and branches from Wood Textures DSP and Soft Suede card stock using the set of 3 leaves in the Sweet Cake Thinlets. I also die cut one of the triple leaf from Nature’s Roots Framelits from the Wood Textures DSP. I then dry embossed it using the embossing plate in the set of Framelits.

wild wing creations-2

The sentiment circle in Wood Textures DSP is cut with the #4 circle from Layering Circles (I number from smallest to largest) Framelits. The Happy Birthday sentiment from Perennial Birthday, is stamped in Soft Suede ink. I then adhered the triple leaf to the circle before adding the Stampin’ Dimensionals and Linen Thread.

I did a dry fit of all the leaves and stems under the circle before adhering everything. When I was satisfied with the layout, I began layering with Liquid Glue. Several Stampin’ Dimensionals are on the back of the circle, with some of them for the express purpose of holding the Linen Thread loops in place. The rest adhere the threaded up circle over the arrangement of leaves.

I thought it looked a bit plain, so I grabbed my Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker and began to outline the circle. I knew I couldn’t make a perfect circle freehand, so I deliberately added a few bumps and ‘feathers’ which I think looks better than if it were a perfect outline.

wild wing creations-5

The inside has no sentiment as I want to write a personal note here. The same card stock and DSP are on the inside with the Soft Suede acting as the first mat, the leafy DSP under the Wood Textures DSP. This is my writing surface as it is light enough for text to show up. I considered adding a stamped leaf then decided against it. Now, I think it looks plain, so I may go back and add the triple leaf in a stamped off once Soft Suede in the corner.

The envelope flap has more of the DSP , and two of the triple leaves stamped on the front. One of them is full strength Soft Suede and the other is stamped again without re-inking.

I like this challenge and think I will do another card using the same sketch. Stay tuned.

If you like the DSP used here, just bear in mind that we have a special offer going until the end of July. If you purchase 3 packages of DSP, you get the 4th one free. How’s that for a deal? There are some lovely ones, so this is a good time to stock up. More information below.

Stampin’ Up! Lovely Floral Birthday

I hope you are having a Tremendous Tuesday on this THIRD day of July. Wow, before we know it we will be saying August. The year is 1/2 over already.

For today I made the Lovely Floral 3D Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder (DTIEF) the focal point of my card. This DTIEF is so pretty it makes its own statement, no stamping needed.wild wing creations-4

I began by inking the FLAT side of the DTIEF with the beautiful NEW Soft Sea Foam ink. The first one I did had streaks from the edge of the stamp pad, so I changed my inking method and just did a tap-tap with the ink pad on the DTIEF. This gave me a nice texture.

I started with the intention of using this as the whole card front, but in the end decided to cut it down to a square and let the mixed greens do the talking. The square is 3-7/8″. When I laid it on its mat and on the card base, it just didn’t do anything for me, so I decided to round the corners. This gave it some personality. The Envelope Punch board has a nice corner rounder on the back side (or top if you prefer). I also rounded the corners on the Whisper White mat, then used Liquid Glue to adhere the mat to the card base. Stampin’ Dimensionals  attached the focal piece to the mat.

My card base is Garden Green, which pairs nicely with the Soft Sea Foam. I think Soft Sea Foam is my new favorite color. It goes with just about everything!

wild wing creations-4

The sentiment, from You’re Inspiring, is stamped in Garden Green on Whisper White. Since I planned to add some embellishments to the left side of the sentiment, I stamped it off center. I often have a vague idea of how I want the card to look, and sometimes it is too vague to become reality. Such was the case for this one. My sentiment strip was cut and bannerized, that is, the ends were flag cut. This just didn’t DO anything for the card. HMMM. Now what?

Well, I had the scraps from trimming my focal piece, so I made a mat for the sentiment. That helped, but still, No Go. Round the ends? Use a punch? Nothing triggered “Aha!”. I began to go through my dies to see what might work and in the end used one of the retired Lots of Labels Thinlits. This made the perfect sentiment banner. I did the same with the mat, Liquid Glued them together and used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere them to the card front centering it under the focal piece.

Some folks don’t use Stampin’ Up! retired products, but I do. I paid good money for them and got them because I like them, so I will keep using them.

Now for the fun part, adding embellishments. I used the Sweet Cake Framelits to cut some leaves from Garden Green card stock and a couple from the scraps from trimming my focal piece.

wild wing creations-1

The flower is cut using the Flourishing Framelits. I wanted a small flower to sort of mimic the focal flower and this one was perfect. Again, using scraps from trimming the focal piece, I cut the flower, then Liquid Glued it to a scrap of Whisper White. This was fussy cut around the green flower.

I cut a Whisper White flower using the smaller die and curled the edges with my Bone folder. I did the same with the larger flower, curling them backwards. Then, I placed the flower in the palm of my hand and used the blunt end of my Paper Piercer to push down on the flower center. This added more dimension.

A dab of Liquid Glue adhered the small flower over the large one. I arranged the leaves and Liquid glued them  to the sentiment banner, then used a Stampin’ Dimensional to adhere the flower.

A medium Basic Jewels Pearl adds some Pzazz to the flower center, and tiny ones fill the centers of the small flowers in the focal piece.

There! This card front is DONE!

wild wing creations-5

For the inside I stamped some leaves and flowers from Falling Flowers in Soft Sea Foam on Whisper White, then added the sentiments, also in Soft Sea Foam. The sentiments are from Flourishing Phrases and Happy Birthday Gorgeous.

I matted this on some Soft Sea Foam card stock and Liquid Glued the whole into the card base. This is a nice, soft, feminine look.

The envelope front has a single green Falling Flowers leaf in Soft Sea Foam, while the flap is…..surprise! Dry embossed with the Lovely Floral DTIEF for a different look. I like it. I considered inking the DTIEF like I did for the focal piece, but decided it was too messy for the flap.

This post is a bit longish, but sometimes I think it is good to let you know the thought process, not just the finished product.
