Cabin in the Woods Thank You using Stampin’ Up new At Home with You

Here we go with day three of my blogging attempts. It is starting to come a little more easily, but I know there is still a long way to go before this is where I want it to be.

Today’s card is made using stamps from At Home with You, All Things Thanks and Colorful Seasons, as well as the At Home dies and the Woodland embossing folder. After all, it is a cabin in the WOODS! And, a cabin in the Canadian woods near a lake is where my heart really would like to be.  The roof and stone step were made with embossing folders I have had a long time and don’t remember the company.

I started with an Emerald Envy card base and adhered the Woodland embossed Early Espresso panel to the card base. The cabin itself is a piece of raw wood from the Wood Textures DSP, adhered to the woodland with Fast Fuse. I didn’t want it to be too big and hide the ‘trees’ so I cut it smaller than I normally would for a mat. The door is stamped in Soft Suede on another piece of Wood Textures DSP, then die cut. Gotta LOVE that paper! I am so glad it will be around for awhile.

I placed a scrap of Daffodil Yellow behind the cut out windows to add a welcoming glow from inside the cabin. The door opens, so I put apiece of Whisper White behind the door and stamped a sentiment. The door looked a little blah, so I used a black marker to color the door handle and lockset. The whole door assembly was liquid glued to the wood panel.

For the lamp by the door I used the stamp and matching die from the At Home bundle, stamping the image in soft suede and coloring in the flame and candle with my Emerald Envy and Daffodil Yellow Stampin’ Write markers. Using a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals I adhered it to the cabin wall by the door.

For the stoop I used an old embossing folder that looks like stone and sponged a piece of Smokey Slate with some Basic Gray ink before doing the embossing. I adhered it with Fast Fuse to the cabin and the card base, placing it under the door and lining up the bottom with the edge of the card stock. I was happy with the final look.

The Grateful sentiment, the sign and the ‘hanger’ were all stamped with soft suede, with the sign on a scrap of the white Wood Textures DSP, running the grain horizontally instead of vertically. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach it to the door.

The pot was stamped with Basic Black on Smokey Slate and cut with the matching die. The Tree in the pot was stamped with Emerald Envy on Emerald Envy card stock and cut with its matching die. I adhered the tree to the cabin with Stampin’ Dimensionals, overlapping the door for a more realistic look, then used more dimensionals to pop the flower pot over the tree and setting on the stoop.

The ‘cabin’ looked unfinished somehow, so I dry tested the roof, meaning I placed it where it would go but didn’t glue it down,  and it still looked bare. I thought perhaps corners in a contrasting color would do the trick, so I cut narrow strips of Emerald Envy and liquid glued them to the edge of the wood panel. Well, what do you know? It worked. I now had a more finished look, except for attaching the roof.

We’re still not finished building our cabin though. We need a roof. How to make it look like a cabin? Hmmm. I had this old embossing folder I had never used and thought it could look like a metal roof. So, I embossed a scrap of Emerald Envy with it and used scissors to fussy cut angles to make it look more like a roof. I adhered the top to the cabin wall with liquid glue and stacked 2 dimensionals on each corner and in the middle to add some depth, the way a roof would be.

The first attempt didn’t look quite the way I thought it should, so, roof #2 went on. I hope contractors don’t have to do a roof twice!! And, our card front is finished. Whew.

For the inside, I used a piece of the light distressed paper from the Wood Textures DSP, the same as the door, and stamped the sentiment from All Things Thanks, and a twig, from the Colorful Seasons set, in Early Espresso. I then glued this to an Early Espresso mat and into the card base and the card was done!

This is a GREAT set and one that I am sure will be used for many different styles of card. Can’t you see it as a Christmas card? A For Your New Home card? Maybe a beach hut?
