Stampin’ Up! Celebrating a Summer Birthday with Sailing Home

inkin-krew-blog-hop-banner2Good morning Everyone! Today some of my teammates and I are doing our monthly blog hop, so come on along and Celebrate Summer with us.

That is our theme…celebrate summer, which we could interpret any way we wished. I chose to make a masculine birthday card using the Sailing Home stamp bundle, as well as some other elements. What says SUMMER more than sailing?? (Bear in mind that this comes from a land-locked Heartland resident who has never been sailing! But I still think it speaks of summer.)

4 I started with a Night of Navy card base. Then I took a panel of Whisper White which I sponged using the Stampin’ Sponges (cut into quarters). The upper part is Balmy Blue and Pool Party shading into Pacific Point for the water. This shades into Crumb Cake for the sandy beach. This panel was cut the same size as the card, 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.

Next, I used the water stamp from Fabulous Flamingo to stamp the water in Pacific Point. A couple of mountains from Waterfront were stamped in the background with stamped-off-once Crumb Cake.

I tore a piece of copy paper, laid it on my sky and sponged over it in Balmy Blue in a couple of spots to give some texture and depth to the sky. Sort of cloud-like. Some birds from Sailing Home in Memento Tuxedo Black fly over the scene. The stamped grasses in the foreground are from Fabulous Flamingo and are stamped in Mossy Meadow.

For a final touch before adding the sailboats, I ran it through my Big Shot with the Subtle Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

The grasses (or seaweed?) are die cut with dies from the Sailing Home bundle in Mossy Meadow card stock, and green vellum from the Perennial Essence Suite. All were adhered with Liquid Glue.

I tied a square knot in a length of Braided Linen Trim, wrapped it around the panel  over the grasses and taped it on the back. I left the knot off-center so it would sit next to my sentiment. To keep the knot where I wanted it, a Mini Glue Dot or two holds it in place. I used Liquid Glue to adhere this card front to the card base.

I stamped the sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet in Crumb Cake on Crumb Cake Card stock, trimmed it and cut the flag end before using my Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker to go around the edge. This was adhered over the ‘rope’ with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch for the card front is the addition of a few sailboats. I stamped the larger ones with the Sailing Home stamps in Pacific Point on Crumb Cake, and the smaller ones from Lily Pad Lake on Whisper White. I used my Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker to add a bit of color to the small boats. They are a perfect size to give some depth to the scene. They are Liquid Glued to the card front, while Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere the larger ones.

For the inside, I stamped the Sailing Home sailboat in stamped-off-once Crumb Cake, then stamped the sentiment and the birds in Pacific Point on Balmy Blue card stock. Some water from Fabulous Flamingo in stamped-off-once Pacific Point finished the inside, leaving room for me to write a personal message.

This panel was adhered to a Crumb Cake mat and into the card base with Liquid Glue.

The envelope has more Pacific Point birds flying (or should I say flapping?) on the flap, and a couple of sailboats on the front.

I really like the way the front turned out with the Crumb Cake sailboats and the Pacific Point water. I used a retired Crumb Cake medium envelope for this one, but  a white one would work as well.

It doesn’t really matter whether or not you like this card, because I do. However, we all like positive reinforcement for what we do, right? Please leave comments below. Now, on with the hop to see what the other talent has created for your enjoyment.

  1. I think all the dimension you have given your card is fantastic! I’ll come back later and re-read but I have to get ready to take the car in for airbag recall. Have a great day.
