Speaking of snow….the weatherperson says we are supposed to get an inch or so tonight. That will be our first of this 2018 season if it actually happens. It looks like it might snow and if it does it will cover up all those pretty leaves that are on the ground, which I haven’t yet mulched/raked!

As I had been traveling, I put off getting the Snowflake Showcase. Then, when it arrived, I had to be gone again. Thus, I finally got around to using this wonderful collection of goodies. I love it and I know you will as well. Don’t delay though, as it is only available until the end of the month, or, while supplies last, whichever comes first.

I began my card with a piece of the Velvet paper. Oh, my! I love this stuff. This is a product I hope they carry over to next year’s annual catalog. I used it a couple of weeks ago to make a plaid that looks and feels like a flannel shirt! To see that card, just follow this link….plaid thank you. Today, this paper is a snowflake.

The dies in the Snowflake Showcase are wonderful. There is much more here than a big snowflake. Take a look. It isn’t just snowflakes..there are flowers and leaves for any time of year. Guaranteed, I will be using this set a lot. And the dies of course, coordinate with the stamps. The sentiments are nice, too.

OK, I digress! On with the card. Just so I don’t forget to do it, the first thing I do when using embossing powder is to rub my Embossing Buddy over all the pieces I plan to heat emboss. This keeps the powder from sticking where you don’t want it.

The card base is Balmy Blue. Somehow I like blue and snow together. I cut the largest snowflake die from the White Velvet Paper, then cut a smaller one from Silver Foil Sheets. I also cut a mat of the Silver Foil Sheets and used Liquid Glue to adhere a panel of Balmy Blue over it. This is a top folding card.

As I wasn’t sure how to attach the silver snowflake to the velvet one and make sure it stayed adhered, I placed both snowflakes on my Stampin’ Pierce Mat and used the Paper Piercing Tool to poke a hole down through both. With them still in place on the mat, I inserted a brad from my collection of odd bits of STUFF. It really doesn’t show and ensures that the snowflakes stay together.

The large one was then adhered to the Balmy Blue card front and the whole was adhered to the card base. Liquid Glue does both duties here.

The sentiment is from Timeless Tidings and is stamped in Versamark on Whisper White card stock and heat set with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. This was then Liquid Glued to a Silver Foil Sheets mat. Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it to the front of the card and add even more dimension.

For the inside, I simply stamped several smaller snowflakes randomly , leaving room for the sentiment, in Versamark and again used Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. This is so elegant.

The sentiment is from the Angels on Earth stamp set and is also done in Versamark and Silver. Card done!

The envelope is also finished with Versamark and Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. This card is sure to make anyone feel very special when it arrives in the mail. On the flap I used 4 different snowflakes, stamped randomly. Actually, I put all of them on a block and stamped away, then filled in the blank spaces with one of the smaller snowflakes.

Stampin’ Up! see the forest with Winter Wood and Lovely as a Tree

Good morning Everyone. I hope you are off to a great weekend. Mine will be quiet for a change, and I rather enjoy that. It is a gloomy, rainy day, and perfect for curling up with a good book. What are you reading these days?

I received a box of Stampin’ Up! goodies last week, which I have not had time to even open until today. It was almost like Christmas. Of course, I had to use some of the new items, beginning with one of the stamps in Bokeh Dots, the one with stars.

This became the background for my forest. I stamped the stars on a Whisper White panel larger than I needed in stamped off once Night of Navy. Where the stamps overlapped, I put a tree to sort of camouflage the overlap. This tree is from Lovely As A Tree and is stamped in Old Olive, then stamped again without re-inking. I did this a couple more times, varying the height of the trees. I did one tree in Shaded Spruce, but I really don’t like that color with the Old Olive. However, it is staying. The more I look at it, the better I like it. There are MANY shades of green in a forest after all.

This card proceeded to design itself. All I did was cut and glue!

With Crumb Cake I stamped the bare trees in the Winter Woods set across the background, just for some dimension. The large conifer in Winter woods also was stamped a few times.

For the ground, I used the curved In The Woods Framelits die to cut some Whisper White pieces for snow banks. These were layered over the trees and adhered with Liquid Glue. I used a flat paintbrush to brush some Frost White Shimmer Paint over the ‘snow’ to make it glisten. I also randomly dabbed some of the Shimmer Paint on a couple of trees.

One of the Winter Woods conifers was stamped in Mossy Meadow on Mossy Meadow and cut with the coordinating die. This was adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. It looked a bit stark, so I added some ‘snow’ with the Frost White Shimmer Paint. Two of the small deer in Dashing Deer were stamped in Crumb Cake on Crumb Cake card stock and cut with coordinating dies. Stampin’ Dimensionals were used on them also. Had to use the minis on these little guys.

The sentiment is from Winter Woods, stamped in Mossy Meadow on Whisper White and cut with one of the ovals in Layering Ovals Framelits. The little sprig of spruce in the Lovely as a Tree stamp set made a perfect accent on the sentiment. Employing the marker to stamp method, Blackberry Bliss and Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Markers were used to color the stamp. I know there is a smear, and I will re-do the sentiment, but there was no time to do that before this post. That is what a drop of water will do to your creations!

I cannot explain why the snow looks pink. It did not look that way on my computer before uploading the images.

This was mounted on a Blackberry Bliss scalloped oval, also cut with the Layering Ovals Framelits. Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to adhere this to the card front. The front was adhered to a Blackberry Bliss mat with Liquid Glue and onto the Shaded Spruce card base.

For the inside, a mat of Blackberry Bliss (from which I had cut the oval on the front) sets off the Whisper White sentiment panel. The sentiment is from Dashing Deer and stamped in Mossy Meadow. The same technique as for the accent on the front panel was used for the spruce springs in the corners. Liquid Glue was used to adhere both panels to the card base.

The envelope flap was a repeat of the card front and a single conifer from Winter Woods stamped in Mossy Meadow finishes the front of the envelope.

Stampin’ Up! Sneak Peek Still Night Sympathy

A Good Saturday to you all! And, Spectacular September! Yep, it is September already. Launch of Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog (Sept. 5th), Back-to-School, Colorful leaves, end of the garden, Football, Apples-and cider, YUM! It is also the beginning of preparedness for all the upcoming holidays-Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year. OH, MY! Will I ever be ready? I should have begun preparedness months ago!

Obviously, there will be many reasons to make and send cards, and that does not include the birthdays, get well, sympathy, etc.

My card today uses a stamp and die bundle from the Holiday catalog that I knew I MUST HAVE as soon as I saw it. The Still Night Bundle includes the Still Night Stamp Set and the Night Owl Thinlits. This set is special to me for several reasons, not the least of which, as a photographer I was privileged to observe and photograph a Great Horned Owl family this spring for several weeks.

If I could only have 3 Bundles from the Holiday catalog they would be Still Night, Winter Woods and First Frost. All these can be used throughout the year for purposes other than specific holidays, which means my dollars go further. YAY!

But, I am sure you want to see how I made my card. I have not made an envelope for it yet….too many cucumbers to make into pickles, and tomatoes to can whole and diced, and as salsa, juice, and part of my end-of-the-garden soup mix. (Remember, I mentioned the end of the garden earlier in the post.) So, no envelope until I need to send this card. Oh, and did I mention that the inside isn’t finished either? I started the inside, but haven’t had time to finish it and get it in the card.

I really just wanted to give you a peek at this fabulous bundle before the catalog goes live on Wednesday.

This card also uses my favorite Woodlands Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Winter Woods stamps and Rooted in Nature stamps. I think they all combine wonderfully to make a great card.

I began with stamping a few of the wintry bare trees in Gray Granite on a panel of whisper white card stock which I then ran through the Big Shot in the Woodlands TIEF.

Using a Sponge Dauber I then highlighted the woodland embossed trees with Gray Granite. Since the trees I had stamped sort of looked like they were hanging in the air, I used the curvy die in the Winter Woods Bundle to cut a scrap of Whisper white to make a snowbank. This made a perfect way to ground the trees and provide a place for the sentiment from Rooted in Nature, stamped in Gray Granite.

This panel was Liquid Glued onto my Mossy Meadow card base.

To add depth to the scene, I cut a square of whisper white, stamped a row of the bare winter trees in Gray Granite (after stamping them off twice) and some small conifers from the Rooted in Nature (annual catalog) stamp set. These were stamped off once, also in Gray Granite. I was going for a snowy evening look here, but I have other great ideas for this set, so stay tuned for more in upcoming posts.

I did a little Gray Granite sponging to take away the stark whiteness of the background, and am not totally happy with it. Do as you like here.

Then I stamped off the large spruce tree from Winter Woods once in Mossy Meadow and stamped it as the tree closest to the owl. The backgrounds are finished. Now for the fun part, Ollie, the Owl himself. He is so handsome.

Ollie (my name for him) is stamped in Early Espresso on Crumb Cake card stock and colored with my Stampin’ Blends Markers. I used Bronze, Crumb Cake Light, Daffodil Delight Dark (eyes, bill and talons) and Smoky Slate Light. Using the outline die from the Still Night Bundle, and the magnetic platform for perfect placement of the die, I cut him out and applied Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back.

The tree branch, cut with the die from the same bundle, is cut from a panel of Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. I love this paper as it is SO very versatile. I just wish it came in larger sheets. A white Gel pen made the snow on the branch.

I did stamp some snowflakes allover the background panel and the square with Craft White and the stamps from Still Night, but they don’t show up at all.

Liquid glue the branch to the square stamped with trees and adhere the owl in place. Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to attach this art piece to the card front.

Stampin’ Up! Softly Falling

front Good Thursday morning to you all! Here it is almost the end of another week, and the end of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. However, the work of recovering from the devastation wrought by Harvey will just be beginning.

My nephew and family finally had to evacuate yesterday..two boat rides, a truck ride and a walk through flood waters later, they are safe with a family friend. When he tried to return to their home today to see the situation, he was turned back by law enforcement. They are trying to prevent looting and other crimes against persons. Prayers continue for the situation down there. Makes me want to get in my car and go do something to help, but I would probably be more hindrance than help. Donations to churches in the area would probably be the best way to help at this point in time.

OK. On with today’s card, a pretty simple one, but one that also uses a new-to-me technique.

Did you know that you can use your dies to stamp and/or emboss a design? You can! The front of my card is embossed with the Softly Falling TIEF AND the little snowflake dies in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits set.

To emboss with dies and your Big Shot, you will need the Sizzix Emboss and Transfer set accessory which includes a Silicone Rubber Mat (squishy) and a hard Impressions Pad. You will actually only use the squishy mat for this process.

Using your multipurpose platform on Tab 1 (the one you use when using an embossing folder) layer as follows: cut plate, die, cutting side up, paper, squishy, cut plate. Run this through your Big Shot. It will go very smoothly and you might think nothing is happening. However, your dies will emboss your paper. Cool! I would suggest doing a test run to make sure the embossing is embossing the correct side of your paper instead of debossing it.

I see all kinds of possibilities for the dies that I already have. It is more effective with detailed dies.

After embossing, I rounded the corners of the embossed panel and the corners of the card base, using the 3/16″corner punch. This is a good time to also round the corners of the inside sentiment panel.

Using a length of ribbon from my ribbon stash, I wrapped it around the embossed panel, taping it on the back, and liquid glued the panel to the Garden Green card base.

Using the tree dies from Card Front Builder die set, available tomorrow from the Holiday catalog, I cut one of the double tree and one of the single tree in Always Artichoke card stock. These were liquid glued to the embossed panel as background trees. Next, I cut two of the double tree and one of the single tree in Garden Green card stock. The double tree on the right hand side was liquid glued to the panel and the others were adhered using Mini-Stampin’ Dimensionals and Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from the old Wonderland stamp set. I stamped it in Garden Green on Whisper White card stock and die cut it with the number 2 (numbered from smallest to largest) die in the Lots of Labels Framelits. I also cut one in Garden Green using the Number 3 size to use as a mat and adhered it with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The scene, to me, is reminiscent of a still, silent, nighttime snowfall and I wanted the Silent Night sentiment.

It looked a little bare, so I die cut two small deer from Early Espresso card stock using the die from the Card Front Builder Thinlits, tucking one back into the trees and adhering both with Glue Dots.

To finish the card front, a white gel pen made some snowflakes on the trees and piled up snow on the tops of the letters of the sentiment. A few tiny pearls from the Pearl Basic Jewels complete the front.

Inside, I used the dies that cut the trees for the front, only I used them to emboss the trees on the inside. Then, using my Garden Green Stampin’ Write marker, I colored them in. The photo does not show the embossing, but it is there. There was no tree stamp to coordinate with this die set, so the embossing technique allowed me to use the trees on the inside without the bulk of die cuts.

The sentiment at the bottom is also from the Wonderland set, while the main sentiment is from the Holly Berry Happiness stamp set.

The envelope front received a pine bough and pine cone in Garden Green and Early Espresso using the marker to stamp method of inking. The flap is embossed with the Softly Falling TIEF.

I encourage you to try using your dies to emboss and/or stamp. To use them to stamp, just tap, tap, tap your ink pad over the cutting side of the die and run it through your Big Shot as detailed above. I love to be able to use products I have in unexpected ways.
