Stampin’ Up Give Thanks

I hope you all have a good weekend going. The first full day of fall is more like summer here in Iowa. Temperatures are predicted to be in the 90s again today. It may be a good day to go the lake, or the pond, for a swim. Wherever you are, have a good weekend.

My card for today is following the Global Design Project Challenge #105, which is a color challenge. For me, it is a challenge, as I do not like chartreuse by any name, including Lemon Lime Twist. I wanted to do a fall card using the brighter colors, so decided maybe the challenge would be good for me. It would serve to get me out of my comfort zone.

That said, here is the card following the challenge.

I began by deciding to use Very Vanilla for my card base and for the art panel, and  Tangerine Tango for the mats both inside and outside. The next BIG question for me, since I do not like that so-called greenish color, was how to use it.

At this point I decided to focus on the sentiment, which is from the Labels to Love, found on page 45 of the Holiday catalog. This is a Thanksgiving card, and these colors are really not what I would normally choose for Thanksgiving. I decided to use the three challenge colors for the sentiment, inking the stamp with my Stampin’ Write markers. The leaves are Lemon Lime Twist, ‘Give’ is in Peekaboo Peach and ‘Thanks’ is in Tangerine Tango. I also used the handy dandy Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to be sure it was lined up straight.

Before stamping the sentiment , I did a dry arrangement of the elements I would be using, namely, pumpkins. I stamped the larger one in Peekaboo Peach ink on Tangerine Tango card stock, the smaller one in Tangerine Tango on Tangerine Tango card stock, and the gourd in Peekaboo Peach on Lemon Lime Twist. I had to do SOMETHING to tone down that color! Actually, I think it looks pretty realistic. I think I did 3 of each, not knowing how many I might want to use.

That done and the dry arranging accomplished, I stamped the sentiment on a Very Vanilla Oval, cut with the Stitched Shapes ovals, the largest one. It is adhered to a scalloped oval cut with the large scalloped Layering Ovals die from Peekaboo Peach.

I set this aside to concentrate on the background panel. I knew I would use the Tangerine Tango as a mat, but I just did. not. want. a whole sheet of LLT. I decided to use Very Vanilla and dry emboss it, but with what? HMM. Sometimes it is nice to have a LOT of choices in my craft room. It had to coordinate with the pumpkins, so I settled on the Layered Leaves Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder. Not in Lemon Lime Twist! Too much. How about using the brayer to ink the embossing folder and see what happens?

I did that. Hoot Hoot! To my way of thinking it is just the right amount of Lemon Lime Twist. I inked the side with the raised leaves, not too heavily, and used that de-bossed side for my card front. This I will have to try again. I really like the effect.

The panel was Fast Fused to the Tangerine Tango mat.

Jute? Ribbon? Linen Thread? Leave it plain? I ultimately settled on the 3/8″ Ruched Peekaboo Peach ribbon, which is retired. However, the 5/8″ is still available in the annual catalog, so I will put that in my product list. It was wrapped around the matted art panel and taped to the back. I made a bow, which will be saved for another project another day as I decided this one did not need a bow.

The ovals were adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then I adhered the pumpkin elements, letting some of them extend beyond the oval just a wee bit. I added Peekaboo Peach vines and Lemon Lime Twist leaves. The whole was liquid glued to the card base. For a finishing touch I added one Peekaboo Peach Enameled Dot.

The sentiment panel on the inside is Very Vanilla with a double mat of Lemon Lime Twist and Tangerine Tango. The sentiment, from a Gina K Thanksgiving stamp set I have had for awhile, was stamped in Tangerine Tango. In the corner I stamped the larger pumpkin in Tangerine Tango, the smaller one in Peekaboo Peach and the leaves in Lemon Lime Twist. I made a Post-it-Note mask for the bigger one before stamping the other elements.

For the medium Very Vanilla envelope front, I repeated the stamping as done on the inside of the card. I did stamp off once before stamping the envelope.

I dry embossed the flap with the same Layered Leaves Dynamic TIEF, without inking it. I think this is one of the loveliest embossing folders, if not THE loveliest.
