Stampin’ Up Country Floral Birthday for Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Good Thursday morning to You All! I think Spring is finally making a comeback, though it it still pretty drab outside. At least the snow and ice are pretty much gone. We are also supposed to get more rain today. That won’t help the flooding situation in the midwest.

But, on with the hop! Today we have another sketch for inspiration for our hop. Please hop along to all the other ladies to see what beauties they have created.

My card is a birthday card for someone special. Our team leader, Amy, has a birthday today, so I made my card especially for her.

We are working from this sketch:

This is the 5′ X 7″ card I created

I began by cutting Whisper White and Soft Sea Foam ovals using the Layering Ovals framelits. The Whisper White ones I then ran through the Big Shot using the new Country Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder. To get a better depth impression and reduce the cracking, I spritzed the ovals with water and pretty much centered the rose image in the DTIEF on the oval. The depth was great, but there was still some minor cracking. Maybe I didn’t spritz enough.

The next step was to lightly color some of the flowers and leaves with a Sponge Dauber and Flirty Flamingo or Soft Sea Foam ink. These were then adhered to the Soft Sea Foam scalloped ovals with Liquid Glue.

A panel of Whisper White dry embossed with the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder, cut the same size as the front of the card base which is also Whisper White, was adhered with Liquid Glue. The ovals were centered top to bottom over this panel and the outer two were adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue. The third was adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

A strip of Twinkle, Twinkle Designer Series Paper was cut to fit across the front of the card. Linen Thread, colored in Soft Sea Foam by dragging it across the stamp pad, was taped to the back of the DSP strip on both ends. I then tied a bow around the thread.

I dry fit this strip and determined where I needed to put which adhesive. This was then Liquid Glued to the center oval and Stampin’ Dimensionals adhered it to the other two ovals. The ends sat just a bit higher, so I used a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional stacked on a regular Dimensional to make it level.

The sentiment, from Golden Afternoon, was stamped in Flirty Flamingo on a strip of Whisper White and cut with the smallest of the Stitched Rectangles. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere it to the DSP strip. This completed the front.

On the inside, I stamped some dots from the Birthday Backgrounds stamp set in Soft Sea Foam on a panel of Whisper White. The sentiments are from Better Together and are stamped in Flirty Flamingo. This panel was Liquid glued to a mat of the Twinkle, Twinkle DSP, on a Flirty Flamingo mat and into the card base. Card done.

Whoa, wait a minute. In looking at the front, I decided some pearls would be nice, so a few Pearl Basic Jewels were added to the flowers, one to the sentiment panel and 3 at the bottom of the card front. Now it is finished.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMY!! I hope you like your card.

For the envelope, a piece of the Twinkle, Twinkle DSP decorates the flap while some Flirty Flamingo roses from the Climbing Roses stamp set dance across the front.

Stampin’ Up! Festive Farmhouse Anniversary

Good Sunday Morning Everyone! This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118: 24

Rejoice even if it is cold! Or hot! Or raining! Whatever. It is a good thing WE don’t control the weather or things would be in a real mess.

For some reason there are a lot of anniversaries in my family in the autumn of the year. One of my nieces is celebrating theirs soon so I made this card for them using the Festive Farmhouse Designer Series Paper as my inspiration.

If I recall, her bridesmaids wore plaid silk skirts and burgundy silk jackets. The plaid was similar to the Festive Farmhouse plaid. I think. Now, I could be WAY wrong on what I remember, but whatever.  That is why I chose this paper and colors today.

4

My card base is Very Vanilla and the mat on the front is Merry Merlot. A strip of the Festive Farmhouse DSP is cut with my Triple Banner Punch. It has a strip of the new Merry Merlot and Copper 5/8″ reversible ribbon with the Merry Merlot side up on top. I wrapped one end over the DSP and taped it to the back, then cut the other end with my fabric scissors. It was a clean cut, but this ribbon does fray. Badly. The less handling of it the better. To get it to lie flat I used some Tear and Tape to secure it to the DSP. The DSP was Liquid Glued to the mat.

1

A piece of Mossy Meadow run through the Big Shot with the Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder was then cut with the second largest Layering Ovals scalloped oval. The sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet was stamped in Merry Merlot on Very Vanilla. This was cut with the second largest Stitched Shapes oval. I stamped a bow from Beautiful Bouquet also, but didn’t really like it, so I made a bow from the Merry Merlot/Copper ribbon. It is tough to make a nice bow from 5/8″ ribbon, but it turned out fairly well. A Glue Dot adhered it to the sentiment oval and Liquid Glue adhered that oval to the scalloped oval. This was then adhered to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

5

The inside Merry Merlot mat was also dry embossed in the Subtle TIEF before adhering it into the card base with Liquid Glue. The sentiment (Better Together) is stamped in Mossy Meadow on Very Vanilla card stock and cut with the same die as the front. The mat is Festive Farmhouse plaid again, cut with the largest Layering Ovals scalloped oval. All are adhered with Liquid Glue.

For the envelope, I used the bow from Beautiful Bouquet  to stamp a row of Merry Merlot bows across the bottom of the envelope front. Full disclosure: I stamped the first envelope front UPSIDE DOWN, meaning I stamped them across the top. Oh, my! Wasted envelope!

2 For the flap, I used the Festive Farmhouse plaid Designer Series Paper again. Gotta love the plaid!

3  I think this card is pleasing and hope it brings fond memories to the recipients.

Stampin’ Up! Serene Garden Anniversary for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Blog hop headerI hope you are all having a tremendous Thursday as you join us for the Thursday Blog Hop. Our challenge for today was color, and I think these are GREAT colors, especially when used together. Here are the colors for today’s challenge.

June 28 hop color challenge

Here is the card I created for it. It is a 5″ x 7″ card, so if you want a smaller one, adjust the card cuts accordingly.

I began with a Mossy Meadow card base. Next up was to emboss the Very Vanilla with the Basketweave 3D Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder. I love this folder! It is so versatile and can be used with so many stamp sets.

I stamped the large design in the Serene Garden stamp set in Mossy Meadow on Very Vanilla, colored the flowers with my Petal Pink Stampin’ Write Marker, and used my Blender Pen to add a bit of color to the leaves. I thought the flowers looked ‘flat’ so I went over the outer petals again with the Petal Pink marker. Then I fussy cut this image. Yes, you heard me, I fussy cut it, because I have not yet purchased the coordinating dies. Even if I had the dies, I would have still done some fussy cutting so more of my basketweave would show. YOU can save 10% by ordering both the stamps and the dies in a bundle.

I stamped the smaller corner leaves in Mossy Meadow (my new favorite green) and again used the blender pen to distribute some color. I also fussy cut these.

The sentiment is from Special Celebrations and stamped in Versamark on Very Vanilla and heat embossed in Gold. Before stamping, I used my Embossing Buddy to go over the Very Vanilla so I wouldn’t get little bits of gold where I didn’t want them. I cut this with the third largest Layering Ovals die and adhered it to a Petal Pink Layering Ovals die. Before adhering I edged the VV oval with Versamark and dipped it in the Gold Emboss Powder, then heat set it. This layered oval was then Tear and Taped to a Gold Foil Sheets oval, just slightly larger than the scalloped pink one.

I did a dry fit and decided to do the inside before making the final adhesion. Good thing I did, too, as I dry fit the front to be a horizontal card, then made the inside vertical! I am sure none of you have ever done that! Since I hadn’t glued anything to the front, it was all ok, though I think I would have liked the horizontal layout better.

The inside sentiment is from the retired Number of Years and stamped in Mossy Meadow on Very Vanilla. I also edged this panel with my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker. I used the retired stamp set because this is an anniversary card, and I have no other anniversary sentiment, at least that I could find.

The lovely dove in Serene Garden graces the inside in Petal Pink. The single stemmed flower is stamped in Mossy Meadow and the flower colored in Petal Pink. This panel was adhered to a Petal Pink mat and into the card base with Liquid Glue.

Back to the front and I was ready to put everything together when I noticed the horizonal/vertical mis-match. No problem, just make the whole thing vertical!

I Liquid Glued the fussy cut pieces to the basketweave. This panel was Tear and Taped to the Petal Pink mat. The Petal pink was also adhered to the Gold Foil Sheets (out of which I cut the center leaving a 3/4″ border) with Tear and Tape and the whole was glued to the card base with Liquid Glue.

To finish the front I stuck MANY Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the layered ovals and wound some Gold Metallic Thread around then adhered it to the card front. The final touch was a single gold dot, but the label is missing, so I don’t know which embellishment it is. I think any bit of gold, or Petal Pink or Mossy Meadow would do.

The envelope was stamped on the front and flap with the same stamps as for the card, also in Mossy Meadow. The flowers on the front were colored with my Petal Pink Stampin’ Write Marker. I only used the corner stamp for the flap after waffling about whether to add flowers.

I really like this Serene Garden stamp set and will no doubt use it frequently.
