Good Sunday Morning Everyone! Hallelujah! It is a great day to be alive. Perhaps I say that because I just celebrated a milestone birthday and attended the funeral of a friend who died at age 104. That said, every day is a Great Day, and one given to me to sing praise to my Lord.

For today, while celebrating life, I have another sympathy card for you. After all, death is part of life, and we should not forget that. Our emotions are sad at the passing of someone we love, but joyful at the same time when we know that loved one has gone on to their eternal home.

I began with a panel of Very Vanilla Card stock as my card base. I embossed the front with my Pinewood Planks 3D Textured Embossing Folder. To this I added a panel of Mossy Meadow embossed with the Corrugated 3D embossing folder and torn to give it a more rustic look, then used Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front.

With Mossy Meadow ink, I stamped the large tree from Rooted in Nature on a panel of Old Olive, and tore it around the tree. MANY Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back allowed me to wrap some Copper Metallic Thread around and still have enough sticky left to adhere it to the corrugated panel. I made a major mistake in not ordering more of this before SU retired it. I can’t believe they did that!!

I went over a Very Vanilla scrap with my Embossing Buddy before stamping the sentiment from the retired Thoughts and Prayers in Versamark Ink. Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder and my heat tool finished the sentiment, which I punched out using the Tailored Tag Punch. More Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to adhere this to finish the card front.

On the inside, I used Mossy Meadow card stock embossed with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder and torn to replicate the front, as a mat for the sentiment panel. Versamark Ink and the Embossing Buddy prepared my Very Vanilla Panel for the Copper Emboss Powder and the heat tool. Again, I tore this panel before adhering it to a mat of Old Olive. I had run the edges of the Old Olive panel through the Versamark Ink Pad and embossed it with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder before adhering the sentiment to it with Liquid Glue. The completed panel was Liquid Glued into the card base. I chose to angle the Old Olive sentiment panel for a bit more interest. The sentiment is from Path of Petals.

The front of the envelope was stamped in Mossy Meadow with a single leaf, while the back got the whole big tree! I like this tree. The photo of the front didn’t turn out very well, so you will just have to imagine it.

I hope you enjoy this card. Rooted in Nature is one of my very favorite stamp and die sets, and I use it often.

Good Saturday, Everyone! I hope you are on your way to a great weekend.

Today my card fits the Color Throwdown Challenge #515

I am using Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Whisper white and Old Olive today. The first order of business was to rip apart a piece of White copy paper and wad it up. I had 2 pieces, one for the card and one for the envelope. After crunching it up I spread it out as flat as it would go and stamped the Sheet Music stamp on the pieces in Soft Suede. I used the Stamparatus to do this, so if I didn’t get a good stamping the first time I would be able to repeat it. Of course, I needed to repeat it.

When I had a good enough image (I wanted it to look distressed and old) I tore it to fit the card, then sponged all over it with Soft Suede ink. I started with a very light hand, then added more as I thought it needed it. There is a little bit of Early Espresso sponged on here and there as well. Some of the edges got curled up a bit, also adding to the aged look.

My Thick Whisper White card base has an Olive Green mat adhered to it with Liquid Glue.

Next, my base panel of Crumb Cake was stamped all over with Versamark in in the pattern of the Very Vintage flowers. More sponging with Soft Suede around the edges add to the aged look. I did not re-ink to sponge this panel. To this I adhered the music with Liquid glue.

Across the bottom of the panel I added a bit of old cotton crocheted lace and taped it on the back. Some Linen Thread was wound around a couple of times and tied in a bow. To make sure the bow stayed in place, I put a Glue Dot under it.

Another piece of Crumb Cake was the basis for my focal point…the flowers again from Very Vintage, this time embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I then cut it out with one of the Layering Ovals Framelits. Again, Soft Suede sponged all over, and darker at the edges. I then used a tissue to wipe the color off the flowers. Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere this to the card front.

For the sentiment, I chose to stamp it on Old Olive in Soft Suede, using the square and sentiment from Very Vintage. I do not have the Darling Label punch, so I used my trimmer to cut it to size, then fussy cut the corners with my Paper Snips Scissors. More sponging with Soft Suede ages this piece as well. Stampin’ dimensionals on 3 corners adhere this in place over the oval. This card front was then adhered to the Old Olive mat with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the inside of the card, I adhered a mat of Old Olive with Liquid Glue after sponging this with Soft Suede and my trusty Stampin’ Sponge. On a panel of Crumb Cake, I stamped the Very Vintage flowers and sentiment in Versamark Ink, then heat embossed them in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it.

I used one of the dies from the Delicate Lace Edgelits to cut the bottom of the Crumb Cake panel to coordinate with the lace on the front of the card. More sponging with Soft Suede ages this panel, which was then adhered to the mat with Liquid Glue.

To finish the front, I attached a wooden butterfly (also sponged with Soft Suede) with a Glue Dot and this card is finished.

The Whisper White Medium Envelope has a Soft Suede floral image from Very Vintage on the front, and more stamped, distressed, and sponged Sheet Music on the flap. The sheet music stamp isn’t wide enough, as it turns out, to cover the flap, so I put it sideways. It was either that, or make a new piece, and I didn’t have time to do that. Next time I will remember to stamp the image side by side using the Stamparatus for placement., I am ok with it sideways. To me, the important thing is the distressing.

It’s FRIDAY! Busy weekend coming up for me! How about all of you? Great plans? Or just relaxing and enjoying some quiet time?

Well, let’s get on with today’s card, shall we? I know that is why you all came. I chose pretty traditional Christmas colors for today’s card-green and red.

It also fits in with the Holly and Ivy Challenge #38 – Anything Christmas Goes

My thoughts went to the recently received Beautiful Baubles Bundle and I thought I would use the big, beautiful bauble, and even put the stamp on a block ready to use. But wait! My thoughts turned to trees and a forest scene. (What? Me? make a forest scene?) I looked more closely at the thinlits in that bundle and came up with this card.

The first thing I did was to use the large wreath (or whatever it is) thinlit to cut a circle from my Old Olive panel. Not wanting this to be too plain, I used the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder to dry emboss it. Perfect!

I then centered this over my Real Red mat and very lightly marked in pencil this circle on the panel. Using my grid paper I then marked the center and extended the marks out to the edge of the circle.

To line everything up perfectly I put the Layering Circles Framelit on my grid paper to mark the centers on it with a permanent marker the same way I had marked the paper circle. (Since there is no center in the die, the marks are across from each other, but centered, marking the quadrants) Next, I placed the Real Red panel with the marked circle on my grid paper again and put the marked thinlit on top, getting all the marks perfect, then used Post It tape to hold everything in place and ran it through the big shot.

This red mat was adhered behind my Old Olive wreath panel with Liquid Glue. Oh, I am liking this! Now we are ready for the artwork.

On a 4″ square of Whisper White I marked the center, then traced a pencil line around the wreath framelit to help me with placing the stamping. A Sponge Dauber and some Balmy Blue ink (mostly sponged off on my scratch paper before touching my Whisper White) give just the barest hint of sky. With Old Olive and Mossy Meadow I inked up the single conifer and the twin conifers from Rooted in Nature and began stamping. Some of the trees are full strength and some I just kept stamping without re-inking, staggering the placement. This gives the illusion of a forest with some trees further away.

I moved this square around until the stamped design pleased me within the cut out circle, then very lightly marked in pencil where it would be. This was my guide for using the large plain framelit in the Beautiful Baubles Bundle to trim my design to fit. Liquid Glue again does the adhering. This is my ‘go to’ adhesive.

One bit of advice: DON’T FORGET TO ERASE ALL PENCIL MARKS each step of the way! Do this before assembling. If you made very light marks, they are easy to erase with no telltale signs.

This 3-layered card front was then adhered to my Mossy Meadow card base, again with Liquid Glue.

For the sentiment, I used the words from Merry Christmas to All Bundle and stamped them in Mossy Meadow on Whisper White. Using the small banner die from Lakeside Thinlits I cut half of the sentiment, then turned the die around the cut the second half. I edged this with my Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker, stuck a few Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back and adhered it to my card front.

For the inside, I stamped the sentiment from Merry Christmas to All in full strength Real Red and some more trees in Mossy Meadow, again both full strength and stamped off once or twice. Actually, I stamped the trees first so I would know where to put the sentiment.

It looked a bit plain, so I added three of the smaller red dots from the Santa’s Workshop Enamel Shapes. Done! This liner was adhered to a Real Red mat and into the card base with Liquid Glue.

Hmm. Now the front looks plain. A bow! Of course, a bow. I used the Real Red 3’8″ Mixed Satin Ribbon (Holiday Catalog page 6) and made a nice, small bow which was adhered with a Glue Dot.

Card finished! On with the envelope, as we can’t have naked envelopes.

A few more Mossy Meadow trees on the front and a pretty stamped Real Red bow on the flap is all this envelope needs to tie it to the card that will go inside. The bow is from the Wishing You Well stamp set.

I rather like this card, and might try another with a different scene, maybe different colors too. The die from Beautiful Baubles will lend itself to many styles.

Blog hop header Today for our weekly Thursday Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop, I chose to use the color challenge colors to make a plaid using the Buffalo Check background stamp. Here are our colors.

My friend Mary did a video tutorial on making plaid with the Buffalo Check background stamp. To watch her video, go here. She inspired me to make my own plaid. Here is the plaid I created and the card on which I used it.

Now, I love plaid. Always have, always will. I think today’s colors lend themselves well to plaid for a masculine birthday card, so let’s get on with it shall we?

It took a couple of tries to get the look I wanted in the end, but I really like this look. I stamped the Buffalo Check in Cajun Craze on Very Vanilla, then added the stripes in Old Olive and Blackberry Bliss. There are many kinds of plaids out there, so don’t be afraid to experiment a bit. It is only paper! I used my dark Stampin’ Blends marker (brush end) for the wide stripes and the Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker bullet end for the finer lines.

My plaid panel was adhered to a Blackberry Bliss mat with Liquid Glue. A strip of Burlap Ribbon was wrapped around these panels and taped to the back.

This became the background for the Pleasant Pheasant stamp, stamped in Cajun Craze on Very Vanilla. I colored this in with the challenge colors plus some crushed curry. And I didn’t like it. AT ALL! It went to file 13! Guess I need practice in coloring. Back to Kindergarten folks!

The one I used is just stamped in Cajun Craze and the grasses colored with my Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker. I cut the image with the largest Stitched Shapes Circle die. This is Liquid Glued to a Copper Foil scalloped circle, cut with the largest Layering Circles Scalloped die.

Several Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back allowed me to wind some Copper Metallic Thread around before adhering to the card front.

The sentiment is from Sunshine Sayings and is stamped in Blackberry Bliss on Very Vanilla. I used the shaped die from Still Night to cut the sentiment, then used my Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker to make the stitches. This is adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue. The whole was then applied to the Old Olive card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On the inside, another image from Pleasant Pheasants, stamped in Cajun Craze after stamping off once, provides a background for the Blackberry Bliss sentiment from Special Celebrations on Very Vanilla card stock. A narrow strip trimmed from my plaid panel was adhered to the left side of the sentiment liner with Liquid Glue. The other three sides got more Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker stitches.

This panel was Liquid Glued to a Blackberry Bliss mat and into the card base.

The envelope has another of the Pleasant Pheasant images on the front and more of the pheasants on the flap.

Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop Sympathy

Blog hop header You know how it is. Some days you have it, some days you don’t. One day the creative juices just seem to flow and you could create all day. Other days, like today, it is like the creativity is frozen, and nothing moves! Today is one of THOSE days. I guess I could claim the cold weather has frozen my brain.

Regardless, today was a struggle. And, today is our blog hop, so, I HAVE to do a card. Our challenge was color, specifically Old Olive, Marina Mist and Whisper White. Not difficult at all, right? Well, for me it was today. I simply could not get a card that completely satisfied me.

I began with several ideas, none of which seemed to work. I actually started 3 different cards and none of them was satisfactory. In the end, this is what you get.

Thick Whisper White card stock is the card base with a mat of Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper. Next up is a dry embossed panel of Marina Mist using the Fluttering Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. After adhering these two panels together, I layered a strip of Old Olive Sheer Ribbon over a strip of Whisper White Organza Ribbon, wrapped it around the panels and taped it to the back. Liquid Glue adhered this combination to the card base.

I used the lovely Lots of Lavender stamp set that I got FREE during the Sale-A-Bration event, to stamp the flower on a panel of Whisper White. I first stamped the Marina Mist watercolor piece, then, with Memento Black, stamped the outline design. I finished it by using my Old Olive and Blushing Bride Stampin’ Write Markers. I did use a little bit of Pear Pzazz to shade the leaves.

Again with Memento Black ink and the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, I stamped the sentiment. This panel was then cut with the largest oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits set. The Old Olive mat was die cut with the largest scalloped Layering Ovals Framelits. Liquid Glue adhered these together and Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to attach this to the card front.

As a finishing touch, I stamped the small butterfly from the Hold on to Hope bundle in Marina Mist and used the matching die to cut it out. A Mini Stampin’ Dimensional adhered it to the front of the card. Not my best effort, but it will have to do.

On the inside I repeated the design on the front, stamping it off once before stamping my Whisper White panel. The sentiment is from the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set and stamped in Memento Black. This panel was liquid glued to a Marina Mist mat, then to a mat of the same Delightful Daisy DSP that is on the front, and into the card base.

The envelope has another of the Lots of Lavender flowers on the front and a piece of the DSP finished the flap. I deliberately did a sloppy job on the leaves on the envelope and on the inside of the card. After doing the front art piece, I decided that if the flowers had a sort of watercolor look, the leaves should as well. Thus, I did not fully color them.

I hope you all are going to have a good weekend. It doesn’t seem like a Saturday to me, but that’s what the calendar says, so I guess I will believe it.

My card for today uses the Good Tidings stamp set found in the holiday catalog. I had not had an opportunity to use it before, but had seen some nice cards online and have been itching to try it.

I love holly, and this set makes pretty realistic looking holly with a two step stamp. Actually, it is a four step if you include the berries-two step for the leaves and two step for the berries. Stampin’ Up has made it easy to use by labeling each piece, 1-a, 1-b, 1-c, etc, so you know which stamp to use first. The stem is another two step. Sounds like a dance doesn’t it? I digress.

The card base is Whisper White to which I Liquid Glued a panel of Old Olive.

I began stamping with a panel of Merry Music Designer Series Paper on which to do my stamping. As I had not previously used this set, I did a few practice stamps on scratch paper to get the hang of it. I am glad I did though the end product is far from perfect. Maybe the next card will be perfect!! HA!

Using the solid leaf stamp I stamped the design in Old Olive, then over stamped using the detail stamp in Garden Green. Next, I used Real Red for the solid berry and Cherry Cobbler for the detail. These stamps really do give detail and depth to the design. There are two more stamps to this design which I couldn’t figure out at first. They are the stems and dots on the berries. I had a bit of difficulty lining them up and wished I already had the brand new Stamparatus! For these I used Crumb Cake, then Soft Suede for the second stamp.

On with the show, I mean, the stamping. Using the smaller holly leaf I used the same technique, putting one in each corner. This panel is Liquid Glued to a mat of Cherry Cobbler.

Using a length of Candy Cane Bakers Twine left over from last year (now retired), I wound it around this panel three times, securing it on the back with tape. The bow is made by wrapping the twine around three fingers three times and around two fingers three times, then pinching it together. Cut a small (5″) piece of twine to wrap around the middle, securing the loops, then tie it in a knot. You can then arrange the loops to your liking. A Glue dot holds the three strands of twine together and holds the bow as well, making it look like you tied the bow around your strands.

This panel is adhered to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the sentiment I stamped the Good Tidings from the stamp set of the same name in Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White and die cut it using a Layering Circles Framelit. I cut a second circle from Cherry Cobbler using one of the Layering Circles scalloped edged framelits. Liquid Glue adheres these together, and Stampin’ Dimensionals secure it to the music panel. A rhinestone colored with my Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker finishes it. Card front done!

On the inside I pretty much repeated the front, only I did not stamp the larger holly leaf. Stamp the holly as before on the music, Liquid Glue the three panels together and into the card base.

I thought the music would make it difficult to read the sentiment, so it, also from the Glad Tidings set, is stamped in Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White and punched out with the Pretty Label Punch. Using my Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker I edged the piece to make it stand out from the music background and Liquid Glued it in place. On to the envelope.

A small holly and berries, stamped as before, adorns the front while more Merry Music Designer Series Paper finishes the flap. Enjoy!

Hey everyone! I have been very busy trying to get my craft space re-organized so it is easier to work. It seems to take forever, but I am making headway. At least on Sunday afternoon I got all the scrap card stock and DSP sorted and put in the proper file. Whew! I didn’t know I had so many scraps. Some might say I am a pack rat. That isn’t true, but I do try to save where I can and believe in using odd bits when possible.

Today’s card is for my Great Granddaughter who will turn 4 on Friday. She told me recently that she wants to be a mermaid for Halloween. I managed to find an idea to make her a costume, so that will be her birthday present. I made this card to go with it.

The card base is Very Vanilla. I began by taking another panel of Very Vanilla and die cutting the fancy oval from it. My intent was to adhere the DSP on the back and put the die cut back in the space, leaving the center open. But first, I wanted the mermaid to be IN the water, so I sponged the upper portion in Soft Sky, which, on Very Vanilla, turned sort of green. Not good.

I decided the sand should be done next, so I inked up the sand stamp from Magical Mermaid in soft Suede and stamped until the lower area was covered. Who ever heard of vanilla sand? I sponged over the stamping with Sahara Sand until I thought it looked more like real sand at the bottom of the ocean, blending it into the ‘water’ above.

To correct the greenish tint I sponged over the Soft Sky with Marina Mist, rendering a bluer water with some green undertones. Using Liquid Glue I adhered a piece of the wavy water from the retired By the Shore DSP to the back of my panel. So far, so good.

Then, when I re-inserted the die cut into the oval, it was all wrong. I didn’t want to sponge it, so I cut another oval from Soft Sky and used that die cut to put back into my panel. Oohh! I like this. That die, as well as the fish dies and the mermaid on the inside are from a stamp/die set from Simply Defined and is called Time and Tides. The die cut seaweeds are also from that bundle.

I spent the next hour or so die cutting, all the pieces I would need for my vision, which included ruining a couple of pieces and having to cut them again. The gluing was a bit tedious, but not too much of a chore.

The seaweed is cut all in one piece as the die is really a frame, then I simply cut it apart to make more of an ocean bottom look. All the seaweed, inside and out, is from Old Olive. I dry arranged everything before starting to adhere elements in place.

I stamped the mermaid from Magical Mermaid in Smokey Slate ink onto Whisper White card stock, made sure it was dry, then proceeded to color her with my new Stampin’ Blends. These are Stampin’ Up!s new alcohol markers and they really blend well. They were available to demonstrators on October 1, but I do not know when they will be available for customers. As soon as I get the word I will let you know.

I used Calypso Coral, Pink Pirouette, Pool Party, Ivory and Crumb Cake to color the mermaid. Each color comes in a dark and a light, which makes blending very easy. There is also a color lifter which can be used to take away any color where you get too much. The mermaid costume has pink, coral, cream and about 3 shades of blue, so I tried to replicate that look on this card. I will say here that I thought about adding some pearls or enamel dots, but she has a 1 year old brother and I figured if they came off it might be a choking hazard, so I left them off.

Her hair is Crumb Cake, body is Ivory, and the other colors are in the tail. Her hair band is Calypso Coral, the dark one. Since there is no die for her, I fussy cut the pretty girl fish, or is it fish girl?

I die cut 2 fish in Calypso Coral, one in Marina Mist and one from a previously stamped scrap of Daffodil Delight. I thought it made a nice tiger fish. (See, all those scraps come in handy sometimes!)

The seaweed at left is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals cut to fit the small spaces. Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals were too big and more difficult to cut smaller. The piece at right is two pieces cut and layered, gluing them together, which was almost as much of a chore as cutting bitty pieces of Dimensionals. Both the one at right and the one next to it were liquid glued to the card front. I left a gap about halfway up that was not glued down so I could have a fish swimming through the seaweed.

Before adhering the next pieces I attached the Mermaid with Stampin’ Dimensionals so she could appear to be rising from the seaweeds. There was a blank space and I was DONE with the bitty, fragile pieces of seaweed, so I stamped the weeds from Magical Mermaid onto Old Olive with Old Olive ink and fussy cut it. This was adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals also, with the edge tucked behind the Mermaid’s tail.

The blue fish and striped fish were also attached with Dimensionals in the seaweed at left. The smaller coral fish was also adhered with Dimensionals.

To finish the card front, I stamped some air bubbles from the Seaside Shore stamp set, and the sentiment from Magical Mermaid in Marina Mist.

I LOVE the dimension and textures of this card. I am equally certain the little girl in question will love it too.

On the inside, I cut the By the Shore wavy paper one inch too short, intentionally, and liquid glued it to a Soft Sky mat, keeping it at the top. At the bottom I added a one inch strip of Very Vanilla that I had stamped with the sand image in Soft Suede and sponged over it with Sahara Sand.

Over this I stamped a couple of seaweed images from the Magical Mermaid set in Old Olive and the sentiment from the same stamp set in Marina Mist.

Using the Mermaid from the Time and Tides collection from Simply Defined, I stamped her in Smokey slate and used my new Stampin’ Blends to color her the same as the one on the front. I don’t mind that the waves show through, as I think it lends a more ethereal look to the Mermaid. To complete the inside of the card, I die cut 3 small seaweeds and a Conch shell (stamped with Calypso Coral on Very Vanilla first) from the Time and Tides collection. The weed at left is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensional bits and the rest with liquid glue.

The envelope flap got more of the By the Shore DSP while the front was stamped with Old Olive seaweed and a Soft Sky mermaid, all from the Magical Mermaid set.
