Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Giving Thanks Blog Hop

inkin-krew-blog-hop-banner2Good Tuesday morning to Everyone. I have been absent from the Blogging scene for a few days and it feels good to be back.

Today our creative Inkin’ Krew has some lovely projects to share with you, so, lets Hop!

My card uses my favorites: Leaflets framelits, Copper and Vintage Leaves stamps. I also chose to use my new Ranger Distress Oxide inks.

Using about six of the Distress Oxide inks, I just smeared them around on my craft mat, spritzed a LITTLE water and dragged my 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of Very Vanilla through it. I heat dried it, and repeated the process twice more, then touched up some bare spots with my Stampin’ Sponge and Pumpkin Pie ink.

From this sheet I cut my front panel and dry embossed it with the Layered Leaves 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, making sure my painted side was the DE-bossed side. The debossing does show up in the photo. I just love this embossing folder, but then if it has leaves or trees, I like it! I also really like these fall colors.

card front

This whole card was an experiment. The oak leaves were die cut using the Leaflets framelits after I stamped them using the Vintage Leaves stamps. Each one is different. Two of the leaves are cut from Wood Textures DSP, two different woods. One is stamped with Versamark and heat embossed using Copper Embossing Powder. The other one is stamped with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink. One of the things I like about the oxide inks is that you can use a light color on dark paper and it shows. This is the leaf at the right side of the bunch.

The third leaf is stamped with Fired Brick Distress Oxide Ink on the previously inked Very Vanilla card stock. Remember, I did the WHOLE sheet? This allowed me to choose where to cut the leaf. I dry arranged these 3 leaves then liquid glued them to one another.

Next, using the acorn and leaf stamp from Count My Blessings stamp set, I stamped them in Versamark ink on a third piece of Wood Textures DSP and heat embossed them, also in Copper. There is no die for these, so I fussy cut them.

leaf detail

I tied them together by the stems using a length of Copper Trim and tied it in a bow. I took another length of the Copper Trim and spread it out to make a mesh, which I Tear & Taped to the painted, dry embossed panel, wrapping it around to the back and taping it securely.

This panel was adhered to an Always Artichoke mat with Stampin’ Dimensionals. This was then liquid glued to the Crushed Curry card base. tent

For the sentiment, I chose the one from Paisleys and Posies stamp set, inked it in Versamark on a Wood Textures DSP and heat embossed it in Copper. Using my Paper Snips Scissors, I cut a flag end at the end of the sentiment, liquid glued it to a Crushed Curry mat and trimmed it, also with the Paper Snips. Stampin’ Dimensionals adhered it to the painted panel, over the Copper mesh.

sentiment

To the left of the sentiment, I used more Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere my grouping of oak leaves and acorns to the card front. There is an Amish general store not far from me, where I frequently shop. They have everything from books and boots to fabric and zippers, as well as bulk groceries. It was here that I found the little metallic leaf brads that I used, both on the front sentiment and on the inside.

On the inside, I used my Always Artichoke Stampin’ Write marker to draw a border on my Very Vanilla insert, criss-crossing it at the corners. Then, I cut another leaf from the previously painted sheet of Very Vanilla and liquid glued it to the liner.

inside

Again, with Versamark ink and Copper Embossing powder, I added the sentiment. This one is from an autumn themed Gina K stamp set. Another copper metallic brad finishes the inside, which is liquid glued to an Always Artichoke mat and into the Crushed Curry card base.

I have not done an envelope  for this card as I am undecided as to how I want it to look.

Card Cuts: Crushed Curry: 7″ x 10″ scored at 5″, front sentiment mat 1-1/2″ x 3-1/2″; Always Artichoke: (cut 2) inside mat and outside mat 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″, Wood Textures DSP: use 2 different 6″ x 6″ sheets for leaves, acorns and sentiment label; Very Vanilla: One 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet for painting, inside sentiment liner 4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″

Sneak Peek Painted Harvest Card Revealed!

Hey All! I hope you are having a good day. To all of you who may get to read this who are facing the clean-up from Irma, Harvey or wildfires, God Bless You All. I cannot imagine the heart-rending pain and the physical labor you face.

Yesterday I posted some gift tags attached to jars of canned goods. These are for the friend who gave me the excess produce from their garden. I canned vegetables for soup and my own version of vegetable juice cocktail. They will get a jar of each with a pretty tag.

Not only did they give the the produce, they picked it! I am blessed.

The card for today goes along with the jars and tags.wild wing creations3

I began with a Very Vanilla card base. The mat is Cajun Craze and the art panel background is from the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper. This paper is beautiful.

I liquid glued this panel to the Cajun Craze, then wrapped a length of Burlap Ribbon around and taped it on the back. A little liquid glue adhered the ribbon to the front.

Using the Everyday Label punch, I punched, surprise! A label! in Very Vanilla. Using a Sponge Dabber I inked the edges with a little Chocolate Chip, leaving it pretty pale in the center. The sentiment is from Painted Harvest and is in stamped-off-once Chocolate Chip. This was attached over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

A leaf from Painted Harvest was stamped in Lemon Lime Twist and the second stamp (this is a two step leaf) in Always Artichoke. This was punched out using the matching leaf punch and adhered with Glue Dots, as was the Linen Thread double bow.

The sunflower, also a two-step stamp in Painted Harvest, was stamped first in Crushed Curry, then the second stamp in Cajun Craze on Very Vanilla card stock. Remember, this matches what I did yesterday with the gift tags. I made a mask of the flower by stamping it on a post-it-note, then fussy cut it. This was placed over the stamped image. Then I stamped two leaves over this in Lemon Lime Twist and Always Artichoke.

Now for the fun part….fussy cutting. Some people like it, some don’t. When there is no die or punch, there is no other alternative if you want it cut out. After the flower and leaves were cut, all in one piece, I adhered it to the DSP panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the whole panel was attached to the card base, also with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the inside,  I stamped the sunflower and two leaves in the lower left corner, using the same colors and technique as for the one I fussy cut on the front. The upper right corner was stamped with two more of the leaves.wild wing creations4

The sentiment is from Painted Harvest also, and stamped in Chocolate Chip, stamped off once. You just have to love this set! I have seen this flower stamped in greens, pinks, even purple and pink! All are lovely. However, for this card, I was going for an autumn look and wanted to match my previously made gift tags.

To finish this set, I stamped another flower and leaves on the front of a medium Very Vanilla Envelope, wild wing creations1

and used more of the Painted Autumn DSP on the flap.

This finishes a fun set to give to a dear friend.

Stampin’ Up! Painted Harvest tags

I Thought the Painted Harvest bundle would be appropriate for the tags I wanted to attach to some jars of “Harvest” that I will be giving to a friend. She and her husband were kind enough to not only give me their excess tomatoes, but they picked them as well.

You know, canning the produce takes time, and I enjoy doing it. I enjoy it even more when someone else did the backbreaking work of weeding, tending the plants and picking the produce. I get to have the benefits of the fruits of their labors. It is especially appreciated in the dead of winter, when all I have to do is go to the storeroom, grab a jar, open it, heat and eat it. Yum!

As a result of that, I thought the least I could do would be to give them a couple of jars of their processed tomatoes. This is the second picking they have given me, totaling more than a bushel.

From them, I have canned my own version of V-8 vegetable cocktail juice. It really does have 8 vegetables in it. I think it is very tasty. Not a copy of the commercial V-8, but something quite similar and different than plain tomato juice. I have canned plenty of that also.

I really didn’t think a plain old canning jar, even one with juice in it, was a very nice gift, so I proceeded to make a tag for it. Using the Scalloped Tag Topper punch (retired), I cut two tags in Very Vanilla. The Painted Harvest stamp set is great. There are so many possiblities for these stamps. I first stamped the bigger sunflower (this is a two step stamp) in Crushed Curry then over-stamped it with the smaller design in Cajun Craze. The center is stamped in Chocolate Chip. These are photopolymer stamps, which means they are a clear stamp as opposed to the red rubber kind. When you use them with a clear acrylic block, you can see where you are stamping, making it pretty easy to get the registration correct. I don’t always succeed in getting it perfect, but, hey, it’s art, right? Who says it has to be perfect?

Using one of the leaf stamps (also a two-step) I first stamped the solid image in Lemon Lime Twist, then over-stamped in Always Artichoke. Do you see that we have a lot of food going on here? Chocolate Chips, Tomatoes, Artichokes, lemons and Limes! Almost makes me hungry. I chose the LLT, not because I like it (quite the opposite!), but because it looks better with Always Artichoke than any of the other greens. (I must have food on my mind….salad greens too?)

The sentiment is also from the Painted Harvest and is stamped in Cajun Craze.

The second tag was stamped with the same sunflower in the same colors (I think a gift should be coordinated, don’t you?), and the leaves as well. This tag uses a sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet and is stamped in Chocolate Chip.

Both tags are attached to the jars with a brown ribbon from my stash, just to make it look more like a gift than a canning jar. This one contains the vegetable soup mix I call ‘End of the Garden Soup’. It really was from the end of the garden at this time of year back in the day with all the children at home and me being a stay-at-home mom to be able to help my farmer husband. One of the ways I helped, rather than bringing in another income, was to cut down on costs by canning and freezing almost everything we ate. Nowadays, some of it is from the garden, and other vegetables are purchased to fill out the variety a bit. It tastes so good when the snow is flying. One can heat and eat it as is, or add broth and your choice of meat to stretch it further and feed more mouths.

I hope my friend and her husband like this as much as I appreciated their gift of the tomatoes. Oh, and they also gave me some bell peppers as well as a few hot ones. I only used 1/2 of a hot one, seeds removed, for a batch of the vegetable cocktail. My daughter, who likes things spicy, would use the whole pepper, maybe even two!

Thanks for stopping by today. Tomorrow you will see the card I made to go along with the tags. sneak peek
