Stampin’ Up! Animal Outing Birthday

Today is Sunday and I hope you attend the church or synagogue of your choice. It is a great day that the Lord has made, so let us rejoice and be glad in it! Psalm 118:24

My card for today is for a young lad’s birthday and I hope he enjoys it. Animal Outing is so adorable. The design for this card was inspired by a challenge over at As You See It .

Challenge #186

Let’s get on with it, shall we?

Here is what I created, and it is going to come as a shock to those who follow me regularly. They know I do not like CHARTREUSE, and it dominates this card in the form of Lemon Lime Twist. This is my very, very least favorite color, but sometimes it is appropriate. I know I will get a lot of flak! In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.

Shocking isn’t it? But, I think children like bright colors and there are two shades of green (if you can call one of them green) in the Animal Expedtition Designer Series Paper that is the basis for my card.

The top flag shows the different animals and I stamped the sentiment from Perennial Birthday in Shaded Spruce on this flag. The next one down is another paper from Animal Expedition, as is the bottom flag. The fourth flag is Shaded Spruce card stock and was put through the Big Shot in one of the Petal Pair Textured Impressions Embossing Folders. All flag ends were punched with the Banner Triple Punch.1These were all adhered with Liquid Glue to a Lemon Lime Twist mat that had been dry embossed with the Subtle 3D Dynamic Textured Embossing folder. I had planned to use a different TIEF, but it ‘fought’ with the flags, so it had to be rather plain. I really like the texture this folder gives a project.

The card front was adhered to the card base with Liquid Glue also, and a length of 3/16″ braided Linen Trim was wrapped around and tied in a bow. To secure the bow in place I used a  Glue Dot. I usually photograph outside and it was windy to beat the band, blowing the tails of my bow all over the place. My apologies for this.

The inside of the card has a double mat; more (I can’t believe I used so much of this color!) Animal Expetion DSP  matted to a Shaded Spruce mat. The sentiment liner was stamped with a character from the Animal Outing stamp set in Soft Suede and colored with Stampin’ Blends. Colors used were Light Night of Navy, Light and Dark Smoky Slate, Ivory (ears), Light Daffodil Delight and the Color Lifter. This was used on the bird and the ivory horn, which I had colored with light Smoky slate.

The sentiment, from Picture Perfect Birthday, was stamped in Shaded spruce. I hand colored the frog stamp, which is in Animal Outing, with my Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped the rest in Shaded Spruce. This liner was Liquid Glued to the double mat and into the card base.

I just couldn’t bear more Lemon Lime Twist, so used the giraffe printed Animal Expedition DSP for the envelope flap, and fussy cut one of  he smaller Rhinoceros from a scrap of the DSP. Liquid Glue secured it to the front.

In my opinion this card is child worthy in spite of the color used. Please leave comments below. My shoulders are broad, and I can take it!

Disclaimer: I will NEVER LIKE chartreuse, no matter what it is called nor how much I have to use it on a card.

  1. Oh, my gosh…how could you???? But I’m glad you did. I agree that you needed the Subtle TIEF because there was nothing subtle about your use of LLT…lol. The inside could serve as the outside too. Your coloring is spot on. Thank you for brightening my morning and yes, this is the day the Lord made for LLT to take center stage. You make me proud to call you “sister”!

You’re just trying to use up your LLT, right? It’s a cute card and will be loved for its bright colors. The inside is fun too. TFS.

  3. I was shocked speechless. LLT in all it’s bright and blazing glory? On a JULIE JOHNSTON card?!? No WAY! But – it’s so much fun and is going to be truly wonderful for your young recipient. See? LLT is GOOOD!! 🙂
