Stampin’ Up! Tropical Chic Halloween for the Happy Inking Thursday and Happy Stampers Combined Blog Hop

Happy Thursday Everyone! Summer just won’t let go, but the weather folks are saying tomorrow it will feel more like fall. I hope everyone in the path of Florence is safe and recovering from the devastation she wrought. Here in the midwest it has been hot and humid for the past week. I don’t know if the rains we had the 10 days previous to the heat were a drought breaker, but certainly hope so. It was a long, hot, dry summer for us here. I welcome autumn! I especially like to make cards with an autumn theme.

That aside, it is time once again for our monthly joint blog hop with friends to the north. Enjoy the trip!

Today we have a color challenge and a sketch challenge. We can choose either or both. I have chosen both because, well, why not?

I thought the colors would lend themselves well to the season, or to Halloween. I am not really into the Halloween scene, but I do give cards to the little ones in the family, so here we go! If I had purchased the really cute Stampin’ Up! Cauldron Bubble or Toil and Trouble items in the Holiday catalog, my card would have been easier. A black cauldron running over with Granny Apple Green goo would be perfect! Alas, I chose not to purchase those, so have to use my imagination instead. Hard work, sometimes!

Mango Melody makes the card base with a black mat under the Tropical Chic Designer Series Paper. Who knew Tropical and Halloween went together? A simple strip of Mango Melody on a black mat serves as the base for the the sentiment.

I used the Labeler Alphabet stamps for the sentiment, stamping it in Mango Melody with the first letters of each word in Basic Black on Whisper White card stock. (We are allowed to use Whisper White, Very Vanilla or metallics with our challenge)

A Basic Black cat punched with the cat punch finishes the front.

On the inside, in stamped off once Granny Apple Green, I stamped one of the touches of Texture images as a background for the sentiment. This comes from the Labels to Love stamp set. Great, isn’t it?

I stamped it in Black Memento ink then used my Mango Melody Stampin’ Write Marker to color in the words in the middle.

The envelope has a Basic Black cat on the front and more of the DSP on the flap.

  1. When I saw the title of your post, I wondered, “how is she going to pull off Tropical Chic for a Halloween card?” Well, you did! Great choice of DSP. I love your card.

  2. Great idea to use the Labeler Alphabet stamps for your spooky sentiment …. I’m considering getting that alphabet stamp set, so it was great to see how you used it. Also, I’m loving that punched black cat!!
