Stampin’ Up! Tropical Flamingo for Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Good Thursday to you all! Time again to see what my creative team members have done with today’s color challenge. To me it says summer, tropical, and flamingos! Did you know there are 6 kinds of flamingos? All are large, pink and very easily distinquished from other birds. It is a gorgeous sight to see hundreds of them feeding at the edge of a lake.

Here is our challenge.

Bright, eh? Well, here is what I created for this challenge. These colors are W-A-Y outside my comfort zone. I rarely use bright colors except perhaps as an accent color. But, WOW! These are bright! OK, enough chit-chat…on with the hop.

I began by stamping a panel of Calypso Coral in Versamark with the little hibiscus flower in the Tropical Chic stamp set. I used the stamped off once technique.  By the way, everything on this card is either Tropical Chic or Flirty Flamingo, so I won’t repeat myself every time I stamp or die cut. That is, except for the inside sentiment, which is from Rooted in Nature.

This panel became the mat for the art piece. I then decided to do the same thing for a mat on the inside, using the stamped off once technique except for once when I forgot to do that. I decided it added interest so I left it. I really like this look. It adds a little somethin’ somethin’ to the card without making it, well, I was going to say ‘too busy’, but this card is definitely busy!

The next layer is from the Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper Pack. I am surprised I like this pack so much. It is great! This panel was dry embossed using the new Subtles 3D Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder. I should have stamped the Flamingo legs before I embossed, but I didn’t and decided it wasn’t worth discarding it. It would have been difficult to know where to put the legs until after I had added the scalloped square anyway. This was Liquid Glued to the Calypso Coral mat.

I proceeded to die cut several leaves from Shaded Spruce and Soft Sea Foam. I stamped and die cut several hibiscus flowers (stamped off once in Calypso Coral on Whisper White) also. Using another piece of Tropical Escape DSP, I die cut the decorative square and Liquid Glued it to a Shaded Spruce mat cut with a scalloped Layering Squares Framelit.

I stamped the flamingo using the two step stamp, first stamping off once with the solid one, then the details in full strength Melon Mambo. Using my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker, I added some black feathers, part of the bill and his eye. I think it is a male. Who knows?

Everything was dry fitted, then the flamingo legs were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I glued down the decorative matted square and placed the flamingo. It is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The leaves were layered around the flamingo, with the large roundish one Liquid glued first. I die cut one detailed palm in Old Olive just for some interest as I decided there was too much of the same colors of green. This was glued over the fat leaf. The long, layered palm is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The smaller leaf is Liquid glued, with the detail added with a Stampin’ Dimensional. I stamped the detail in Old Olive on Soft Sea Foam.

The hibiscus flowers were adhered over the leaves, two of them with Stampin’ Dimensionals and one glued directly.

The sentiment is stamped in Shaded Spruce on Whisper White and die cut using a die from the Lilypad Lake Bundle which was longer than I needed. I cut one end, only going halfway through the sentiment. To make it shorter, I then put the end of the die where I wanted it on the other end, making sure it clicked into the already cut sides. To do this you just need to put the top plate of your sandwich where you want it to stop cutting. Voila! a perfectly sized sentiment banner. I used my Melon Mambo Stampin’ Write Marker to edge the sentiment piece.

At this point I thought I was finished with the front of the card, but the lower left side looked bare. Some grass stamped twice without re-inking in Shaded Spruce fixed that issue and this tropical paradise is finished.

The inside boasts the second Versamark stamped Calypso Coral mat and another panel from Tropical Escape DSP. This was stamped in stamped off once Shaded Spruce for the leaves and the Rooted in Nature sentiment. Both pieces are adhered with Liquid glue.

The envelope front (no naked envelopes here) has a stamped off once palm leaf in Shaded Spruce and 3 stamped off twice hibiscus flowers in Calypso Coral. The flap has another piece of the DSP.

I hope you like this card. I am surprised that I like it since I rarely use bright colors. But, I do, I do. It is fun and cheerful.
