Good Saturday morning to You All! I hope you have a Stupendous Saturday, doing whatever makes your heart happy. If your day doesn’t make your heart happy, may you be Blessed anyway.
Having need of a card for a man sometimes stretches the imagination, as there isn’t a lot of product out there for men. I tend to reach for the outdoorsy, nature items when I have to send a masculine card. Today I am using the new Nature Sings stamp set. This set is for Christmas with the reindeer and sentiments, but I am making a Get Well card with it using the reindeer image.
I was inspired by this week’s challenge from Freshly Made Sketches 296
While the challenge calls for clean and simple, I used layering to achieve the look I wanted.
The colors I am using are Tranquil Tide, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla.
The card is a 5″ square, so I cut the Tranquil Tide at 5″ x 10″ and scored it at 5″. Other card cuts at the bottom of this post.
Since I love the Woodland embossing folder and this card is for a guy, I chose to make my background panel in Crumb Cake using this TIEF, then mounted it on a mat of Very Vanilla. I wrapped a piece of burlap string around this 3 time where it would be under my art piece and taped it on the back. I used Glue Dots to hold it in place.
The reindeer is stamped in Crumb Cake ink on Very Vanilla card stock, and I used my Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write marker to make a border, just for a little added interest. I could have used the Stitched Shapes square to cut this and had no need for a border. However, sometimes I get in a rut by doing the same thing over and over, so decided to mix it up a little by drawing the border.
To make the art piece dominate I mounted it on a mat of Tranquil Tide that I cut just barely bigger than the Very Vanilla. This is adhered to the ‘woods’ with stampin’ dimensionals, and over the Tranquil Tide flag.
The flag is cut in a fishtail with scissors and glued under the art piece. Actually, this was glued down before adding the art piece, but I dry mounted them to get placement correct before using any adhesives. The card front is finished.
Just to make things interesting on the inside, I embossed another piece of Crumb Cake card stock and cut it so there would be a wide border of Very Vanilla around it. The art/sentiment panel is stamped with images from Nature Sings in Crumb Cake and Tranquil Tide. To show more of the ‘woods’, I offset the art piece. Who says everything has to be centered and straight all the time??? The three layers were glued into the card base and the inside is finished.
I popped the front on with liquid glue and proceeded to make an envelope as I didn’t have any for a square card.
I found in my paper stash (you all DO have a paper stash, right?) a sheet printed with the same birch trunks as are in the embossing folder, AND on a brown background to boot! What could be better?
Using my Envelope board, I followed the numbers for the correct size envelope, then scored, folded and glued the envelope. Voila! Perfect!I will use a label for the address to make it more visible to postal workers.
Beautiful card, Julie! Love the Woodland Embossing behind your art panel! Great card for a man!! π
